Second opinion might be needed

The Montreal Gazette published an article (Linda Nguyen, Canwest News Service) titled "Don't be afraid to seek second opinion, top MD advices". When we are faced with life-threatening diagnosis like cancer, it is wise to seek a second opinion. Breast cancer is frightening but there is usually time for research to find a good doctor before operation and treatment to feel comfortable with your chosen option. A good doctor should support your need for a second opinion. Although uncommon, mistakes can happens, cautions the Canadian Medical Association.
We are often intimidated by doctors and regard them above us because they have studied hard in medical profession in which we have very little knowledge. We all are different and good in something. Let’s respect good doctors but let’s not be intimidated by them.
Enlist the help of someone strong to accompany you to every doctor appointment, to take notes, to ask questions, to help with research, to remember the details when your mind is clouded with fear of the situation and with worry of what future holds. Listen to your intuition.
Start a notebook right away and carry it with you to jot down names, dates, questions, and anything else that might be important but easily forgotten. I regret I did not do it but it is never too late to start.
